Summary: Some things are worth waiting for…
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing…
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet…
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…
Review: Another wonderful Jennifer L. Armentrout novel, this time under her alter ego J. Lynn. I've really been obsessed with her stuff lately! And for good reason, because I swear every new book she comes out with seems to get better and better.
Wait For You is so absolutely different from anything I've ever read from her. It's contemporary rather than paranormal, new adult instead of young adult. It's not often that I've found authors writing in different genres like this being able to hit each of them out of the park.
As I said in an earlier review, the thing that has been bothering me about what I've read so far from the New Adult category (which I must admit hasn't been much), is that they all seem to be very similar. Wait For You is no exception to this. It's centered around a young girl who's left for college hoping to leave behind the demons of her past and the absolutely delicious bad boy with the reputation who suddenly comes into her life. It's all about the main characters fight to deal with their past and to trust this new guy. Even a lot of the supporting characters are pretty similar.
It took me a while to really get into this story because of these similarities. Probably because I've been reading quite a few NA novels lately. But once this story got rolling, I literally couldn't put it down.
The thing that gets me every time with this authors novels are the characters. I ALWAYS JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH!
Wait For You is no exception to this. Despite her failings, Avery is a very likable character. She's been burned and she has secrets that are eating at her yet she's still got spunk. She's got a personality and she's very interesting. Cam on the other hand is perfect. He's got the bad boy edge without the huge flaws that I've seen in a few other YA novels (bad temper, stalkerish, etc.). He does have flaws and he's done things that he's not proud of, but he's already come to terms with them. He's funny, he's charming, he's understanding, he's HOT. Do I need to say more?
The supporting characters are also interesting and knowing that some of them are going to get their own stories in the sequels makes me a very happy girl!
The romance between Avery and Cam worked very well for me. I liked the way it began as well as the way it was all wrapped up. There were a few frustrating moments, of course, where I wanted to pull my hair out, but all in all it was definitely just the right amount of swoon that I'm looking for in a romance novel.
I really, really enjoyed reading this story. Anyone who is looking for a good NA romance should definitely read this novel! I literally cannot wait for the sequel, Be With You, which will be released February 2014 and the novella, Trust In Me, from Cam's POV which will be released October 22, 2013.
